Online CE Webinar – Pharmacist’s Role in Stroke Prevention

Continuing Education is an important requirement for all pharmacists. Not only is it required in all states to maintain and renew our pharmacy licenses, it is instrumental in keeping us all aware and current on what is new in our profession and industry. After all, the goal of continuing education is for all pharmacists to provide a higher standard of services to our patients and to be an integral part of the healthcare system. As pharmacists it is our duty to continually grow in our chosen fields of service and to constantly add to our knowledge base.

Many of us use the traditional methods to obtain our Continuing Education credits such as attending seminars, conferences and conventions. However, many pharmacists are now participating in online webinars for CE credits. One that is coming up soon that you may want to check out is the live interactive webinar being put on by Pharmacy Times on August 21, 2014. There will be two live sessions at 6:00PM and 8:00PM (EDT) taking place. The topic will cover The Community Pharmacist’s Role in Stroke Prevention. It is approved for 1.0 contact hour (01. CEU) by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). The Faculty Speaker will be Philip Coco, PharmD, BCPS, a renowned and respected Clinical Pharmacy Generalist at Hunterdon Medical Center located in Flemington, New Jersey.

The pharmacist’s role in stoke prevention is one area where pharmacists can play an important role in our community and actually help save lives. Stroke is now the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, especially among our elderly patients. It is a major factor in contributing to many cases of long term disability and in many cases can be prevented. This webinar is aimed at identifying and addressing the educational gaps found in stroke prevention. After completion of this webinar, pharmacists should be able to:

  • Describe the role of newer oral anticoagulant agents (NOACs) in stroke prevention
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the successful tactics that will eliminate delays or gaps in pharmacotherapy following discharge from an inpatient setting
  • Identify methods to improve noncompliance among patients who are prescribed anticoagulant therapy with a focus on those that are preparing for discharge or have been recently discharged from an inpatient setting
  • Recognize and adopt tactics to overcome common communication barriers between in- and outpatient pharmacists, as well as with providers

As always, Healthcare Consultants Pharmacy Staffing is in the business of helping pharmacists! For over 25 years HCC has been the leader in providing pharmacy staffing and helping pharmacy owners grow their businesses. Whatever your needs may be as a pharmacist or pharmacy owner, HCC is always willing to help. Call us today at 800-642-1652 for a free consultation regarding any questions that you may have.
