Not every pharmacist wanting work wants a job. Some want two days a week. Some want the winter months and not the summer ones. Some have stepped back from a career and would still like to keep a licence active and a hand in. Central Florida, with a retirement belt of its own around Lake and Marion counties and a long-settled professional population across the Orlando metro, has a good number of pharmacists in that position.
Relief and recurring coverage is built for exactly that, and it is worth being specific about what it does and does not involve.
What the arrangement actually is
You go on assignment through HCC as an independent contractor. You tell us the radius you will drive, the days you are available and the settings you want. When something matching comes up, we bring it to you — with the pharmacy named, the schedule described and the terms stated before anything is sent on your behalf. You can decline an assignment without it affecting the next one.
There is no minimum you have to commit to in order to be on the bench. A pharmacist who takes one day a month is still a pharmacist we can call.
The shapes this takes
- Single days. A pharmacy's regular pharmacist is out and someone has to be there. The most flexible option and the easiest to fit around anything else.
- A standing day. The same weekday at the same pharmacy, ongoing. Predictable, and you stop being a stranger — which tends to make the day easier.
- Blocks. Covering a vacation, a leave, or the stretch while a pharmacy recruits. Useful if you would rather work intensively for a fortnight than spread days across a month.
- Seasonal patterns. If you are only available part of the year, say so up front. It is a normal constraint, not a disqualifier.
Returning after time away
If you have been out of practice for a while, the thing to do is say so at the start rather than discover it on a busy Tuesday. It changes which assignment is the right first one — a quieter independent is a better re-entry than a high-volume floor — and it is a completely routine thing for us to hear.
The same applies to specific skills. Compounding and sterile work in particular are perishable. A pharmacist who says "my cleanroom time is four years back and I would want a refresher before I am checking products" is giving us the information we need to place them well. A pharmacist who does not say it is relying on the day to go easily.
What you need
An active Florida pharmacist licence in good standing, or a Florida application in progress. That is the gate. The rest — the paperwork and standard screening — our onboarding team walks you through after you apply, and it is not something to solve before you get in touch.
Where the work is
Across Central Florida the assignments span independent and discount community pharmacies, community health centres, long-term-care and packaging operations, infusion, compounding and clinic pharmacies. Current regions include the Apopka–Clermont–Lake County corridor, Ocala and Marion County, Greater Orlando and Volusia.
Register as a pharmacist with HCC and tell us how much you actually want to work. Two days a month is a real answer.
